Faculty at Bethany Bible College are more than teaching professionals. Each one has a unique call from God to be part of a team of educators, preparing world-class leaders for Christian ministry. Most of the twelve full-time faculty have had significant local church ministry experience which, in addition to their academic qualifications, makes them well suited to educate and equip men and women for a life of vocational ministry.

Professor Branscombe is an Old Testament scholar who has also served the Church for two years as an assistant pastor and for two years as a nursing home chaplain.

Rev. Dr. Stephen Elliott began his full-time ministry in 1983 when he and his wife Helen began a church plant in Ottawa, Ontario with just 2 people. When he left Ottawa 22 years later to pursue doctoral studies, the church was the 4th largest evangelical church in the Ottawa area, and second largest Wesleyan church in Canada with a staff of eleven and a church constituency of over 1300. During a brief ministry in West Seneca, NY, the church there grew by 15% under his leadership. Steve has also served on several District, camping, youth and denominational boards and has served on Interdenominational commitees and has traveled extensively during his years of pastoral ministry.

Prior to embarking on graduate educational pursuits, Dr. Gavel completed twelve years of pastoral ministry. He is a recognized theologian in The Wesleyan Church and an excellent teacher of God’s Word. His passion for theology is well known throughout the student body. Dr. Gavel is an Ordained Minister in The Wesleyan Church.

In addition to his years of academic preparation, Professor Trouten brings ten years of teaching experience, six years as director of drama, Istrouma Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, LA, considerable experience in writing for publication, and experience in media production to his ministry at Bethany. His love for students and his desire to see them be all they can be is evident in his teaching and leadership of the Division of General Studies.

Carruthers combines eight years of local church youth ministry experience in the US and Canada, his academic qualifications, and a passion to prepare youth ministers who are committed to impacting the youth culture around the world. He is a young, energetic, and effective communicator who is dedicated to youth and youth ministry.

Prior to beginning his ministry at Bethany, Professor Graham completed thirty years as teacher and administrator in the public school system. This has brought a wealth of experience to Bethany’s Christian School Program. Professor Graham also brings years of experience as a volunteer in local church ministry and a warmth and concern for students that is truly exemplary.

Rev. Lee is an Ordained Minister in The Wesleyan Church where he served three years full-time and nine years part-time. He also brings to the classroom, ten years experience in a large urban health care system, moving from the rank of Mental Health Technician to Senior Psychotherapist. His passion for the care of the whole person is evident in his campus ministry.

Professor MacNeil began his ministry at Bethany as Professor of English and English Literature. It soon became evident that his passion was in another area. He is the founding Program Director for Extreme Discipleship and has been the major contributor in shaping this exciting one-year program. His passion for reaching the lost in urban America and in major centers around the world is contagious. For over twenty years as a professor at Bethany, Mike has annually led one or more week-long ministry teams to inner-city North America or on a cross-cultural ministry experience.

Dr. Peed is an experienced missionary, teacher, and pastor. All of these experiences along with his excellent academic qualifications have prepared him for his current ministry. Dr. Peed joined Bethany’s faculty following twenty-one years as a career missionary, fifteen of those years in Zambia, and seven years experience pastoring in Georgia and South Carolina. His vision and passion to shape a future generation of career missionaries is evident in every class he teaches. Dr. Peed is an Ordained Minister in The Wesleyan Church.
